WHO IS TARANA BURKE? THE 'ME TOO.' MOVEMENT
Tarana Burke is an activist with nearly three decades of experience at the intersection of racial justice and gender equity. As the founder of the "me too." movement, she centers survivors, particularly Black women and girls. While her work gained global fame in 2017, Burke remains focused on long-term systemic change regarding body autonomy and sexual violence. Her honors include TIME Person of the Year (2017) and the Sydney Peace Prize (2019). THE "me too." Movement was established in 2006 by Tarana Burke to provide healing and resources for survivors in marginalized communities. Though it gained global visibility in 2017, its core mission remains focused on systemic change and "empowerment through empathy." Now operating as "me too." International, the movement combats the root causes of sexual violence through survivor-led advocacy and cultural reform.
